Last week, we were very excited to participate in an event called The Ultimate San Diego Wedding.  The Ultimate San Diego Wedding was a contest where one lucky couple won, well, the ultimate San Diego wedding!  Fabulous vendors from all over San Diego donated their services to help make this the most stunning and elegant wedding ever.  The location for the ceremony and reception was the historic El Cortez hotel downtown, however the Bride and her Bridesmaids spent the whole day getting ready here at the Britt Scripps Inn.  The next day, we put on a brunch for the newlyweds and their closest friends and family.  It was definitely a memorable day for everyone involved!  See some pictures below!  You can also head to our Facebook to see more pictures.

San Diego Restaurant Week is next week, January 16-21, so I thought I’d put together a list of some nearby participating restaurants as well as some other local favorites.  For Restaurant Week, restaurants throughout San Diego offer a three-course menu for $20, $30, or $40 per person.  Click on any of the bold words below to check out each restaurant’s web site or the green words to see the menu they will be offering.

Avenue 5 Restaurant & Bar – located just 2.5 blocks from the Britt Scripps Inn on 5th Avenue between Nutmeg St. and Olive St..  Avenue 5 is a favorite amongst many of our guests.  The atmosphere is casual, the menu is affordable, and the food is delicious.  Avenue 5 will be offering their menu for $30 per person.

Bertrand at Mr. A’s - located on the roof of the building across the street from the Britt Scripps Inn.  Mr. A’s is a famous San Diego restaurant known for it’s amazing view of downtown San Diego.  Enjoy an elegant meal with impeccable service at Mr. A’s for $40 per person during restaurant week (I also suggest an order of their Truffle Fries because they’re SO good!)  Check out the menu here.

Hexagone – located 1 block away on the corner of 5th Ave. and Laurel St., Hexagone specializes in French cuisine.  Whenever we send guests there, they come back happy, so if French food is your thing, this is the place to head in Banker’s Hill.  They are offering this menu for $40 per person during Restaurant Week.

CUCINA Urbana - also located 1 block away on the corner opposite of Hexagone on 5th Ave. and Laurel St., Cucina Urbana is one of Banker Hill’s most popular restaurants.  They are offering this menu for $30 per person…such a steal!

So, if there are any foodies out there looking for a fun way to spend a night – make reservations at one of the nearby restaurants above and since we all know it’s not safe to drive while in a food coma, you should probably stay at a hotel within walking distance.  Oh wait, that’s us!

Some other suggestions for Restaurant Week are The Prado at Balboa Park ($30 per person), Island Prime on Harbor Island ($40 per person), and BO-beau kitchen + bar in Ocean Beach ($30 per person and I strongly recommend the Boeuf Bourguignon!).

Picture of the Week

Camphor Tree

This is the enormous Camphor Tree that sits in our back yard. The tree is as old as the house (if not older!) and is speculated to be one of the first Camphor Trees planted in San Diego. The Camphor Tree originates from China, Japan, and Korea, and in the United States can mainly be found in California or on the Gulf Coast. We love the shade it provides in the summer - come by and check out this gigantic tree any time!
